‘The School’ in Brisbane with Kara Rosenlund (and a bit about me)

As a child, I was constantly moving my bedroom furniture around, styling my dressing table with new doilies and trinkets and choosing to wear mis-matched clothes. I wallpapered my dolls house and stuck pictures on its walls.

In my early teens, my father came home to find me pulling carpet tiles from my floor and peeling wallpaper off my bedroom walls. You can imagine his dismay when he learned I had enlisted the help of the neighbour, with a trusty drill, to hang a shelf for me. Oh, and that he had to sand the floors and paint my room! I fought hard to have a rice paper lamp shade. I won.

From the moment I had money to burn, I was buying design magazines like nobodies business. I still remember my first trip to IKEA…, what is this magical place with cheap nik naks and Swedish meatballs and why is it so far away from my home?

Later, I worked in homewares stores and as a Visual Merchandiser, where almost everyday was a new and exciting challenge to make something look beautiful in a ‘take me home’ kind of way.

It’s safe to say I was born with this love of design, interiors, art, styling, homes… Whatever it is, I don’t know, its a bit of an eclectic mess, just like me and my style, it changes with my moods.

Since I’ve been addicted to Instagram, I have been visually fulfilled and inspired on a daily basis. I truly love it! It was here that I noticed that The School of Megan Morton was coming back to Brisbane with an assortment of classes to suit the creative mind. There are are probably still a few spaces left in some of the classes if you are interested in attending.

One of the workshops I am doing is Vignettes with Kara Rosenlund. I am hoping this class will help re-ignite some creative juices from when I was a VM. Kara’s style is so refreshing, honest, natural and so unique. Her Instagram and blog are filled with beautiful images and then there is her home… in case you didn’t see it earlier this year, take a look at the spread from Inside Out magazine featuring her home on the front cover! So wonderful to see a Brisbane home getting to shine the way we know how – yay!!

I’ll report back next week on my experiences with ‘The School’ and all the excitement that is Megan Morton. If you are doing any of the classes or going to the ‘Instameet book swap’ let me know! I’d love to meet you!
