The Brisbane Open House weekend is almost here!
This year, the line up promises more new and interesting buildings for the Brisbane public to unlock and uncover over the weekend of October 10 and 11.
The program includes access to around 90 buildings and structures and visitors can learn from renowned Brisbane architects and insightful volunteers on guided tours through some of these buildings.
Last year, I visited Railton House in Spring Hill, on a guided tour led by John Ellway. We meandered quietly thorough the home and John told us more detail about the design and Railton’s work (you can read more here).
I found it really fascinating to hear about this man and his vision, that way so far ahead of the Spring Hill in the 1960’s when this home was built. It was a wonderful experience to hear these stories and discover the home first hand.
The beauty of this Brisbane Open House weekend is that you can experience things you wouldn’t do on your average weekend around town. I hope you get the chance to explore some of the buildings and facilities that are open to the public during this inspiring and eye opening event.
