Recently, I teamed up again with Magnus from A House in Auchenflower blog, to photograph a home that he had been researching.
I wasn’t sure what I would be going to see, so you can imagine my surprise when this grand home lay before me!
Built in 1927 and inhabited by some notable Brisbane families of days gone by, this home is a beautiful piece of Art Deco design, with many of the original features still in place.

The interiors in the original part of the home are true to the Art Deco style, with dark timber panelling, deep colour tones and eye-catching artworks. The home exudes warmth and style, I really felt like I was on the set of a movie!
It has a formal, yet semi-open layout of lounge, and dining areas that lead off into other sections of the home.
The staircase would have to be my favourite part of this home and though it is simple in its design, it evokes such a sense of grandeur, I couldn’t help but love it!
Having lived here for many years before renovations, the owners were keen to re-work the 5 doored kitchen (that could get messy!) and add a new space at the back of the home.
The result is a crisp glass and concrete extension, housing a lounge and dining area that opens entirely to the back garden and pool. The use of natural timber and soft furnishings adds layers of warmth, as I’m sure the wood fired pizza oven does on a cold night!
I love the concept of juxtaposing a modern extension on an older home (as seen here in my post about the Camp Hill home) and this home portrays the concept exceedingly well.
The beauty lies in the fact it does not try, by any means, to be part of the original home. It is clearly a fuss free modern addition, that would provide a great space for the family and entertaining large groups.
