I’m not sure how often photos of a little Art Deco apartment from Brisbane go ‘viral’ on the internet. This home is proof that it has happened, and from the first sight of this gorgeous abode, photographed by Elouise van Riet-Gray, I was head over heels in love too.
Nicolette and Tom’s Art Deco apartment in South Brisbane
Photographer Nicolette and her Husband Tom live in this gorgeous abode with their sweet cat and have lived here for around a year.
The building is an Art Deco-style building from the 1920’s and typical of the era, has a tiny little kitchen, no built-in storage, gorgeous hardwood floors, and a curved-wall in the sun room, used as a dining nook.
Nicolette has furnished the apartment and her style is a carefully curated selection of mid-century, Scandinavian, American Southwest (where Nicolette originates) and Japanese with the notion of wabi-sabi, the aesthetic that everything is imperfect and impermanent.
Like all gorgeous homes, these pieces have been accrued slowly over time and have found their way into the apartment from Gumtree and op-shops. Nicolette is clearly blessed by the op-shop Gods!
Despite its size, the apartment is perfectly laid out and makes for a cosy and comfortable home for this couple and shows that small spaces can have big personalities.
Thank you to Photographer Elouise van Riet-Gray for allowing the use of her stunning images.
