Hillside in Bardon

I love getting tips offs and emails about homes to feature here on the blog.

Even better is when the stars collide (in the form of calendar synchronisation) and I get to shoot the home at a moment’s notice.

Today, we are heading west of the Brisbane CBD, to Bardon.

Bardon is a gorgeous suburb, home to many quintessential Queensland style homes and lots of modern, contemporary builds.

It has the hills and ridges of nearby Paddington and the leafy green trees of neighbouring Mount Coot-Tha forest.

This home sits on a plot which is the perfect combination of all of these factors and is full to the brim with Art Deco character,  with some recently renovated spaces and new additions.

Hillside in Bardon

Sitting snugly into the side of a hill, looking across to the mountains, this home was in need of some TLC when it’s current owners came along.

After a few years of living in the home, learning all it’s nuances, Ann and her husband Axel began the process of making some well thought out changes to a dark and pokey layout.

Let’s take a look inside…

These gorgeous coloured glass windows serve many purposes – apart from looking stunning! The glazing provide a noise barrier, the obscure glass provides privacy from the neighbours and they frame the mountain view that is visible from the front of the house.

Ornate ceilings are one of the original features of this home, along with the pretty leadlight doors (below) and windows.

The new bathroom features a stunning encaustic floor tile from Jatana Interiors.  Ann and Axel really enjoyed the process of selecting the tile, making sure they found ‘the one.’  If you haven’t yet seen the range of tiles available, make a cup of tea and sit down before you browse their website.

Working closely with their builder Craig Yeoman, the downstairs space of the home was remodelled to provide a private area for guests or alternatively, a spot to escape to play loud music!  The same coloured glass is featured again with the windows sliding wide open to provide fresh air and a comfy bench seat.

Much of the artwork featured around the home was painted by Ann and it’s no surprise to find her beautiful studio space tucked away downstairs.  It’s a serene space and being partially subterranean, it’s a cool spot in which to create and be inspired.

Continuing with the individuality that this home exudes, even the laundry features a cool port hole window, adding a bit of fun to an otherwise mundane part of a house!
