There is a veritable smorgasbord of creative talent in this here Brisbane town! I love seeing artistic minds at work, people expressing their individuality and doing things that make them happy.
In my search for unique Brisbane homes, I dropped a line to the folk at BrisStyle the home of Brisbane Etsy sellers and organisers of the fabulous markets held in King George Square and City Hall (if you’ve never been to their markets, put it on your list of things to do!).
One of their members is Donna, a maker of kids and adults clothes with a shop called ‘Kiss My Patootie’. She was happy to share her home with me for the blog! With a cheeky name like that, I knew she would have a fun home, let’s take a look inside…,
Brisbane creative home – Donna from ‘Kiss My Patootie’
Like the clothes that she makes, Donna and her family’s home in Brisbane’s south is pretty unique!
Tucked away in an unassuming suburban street, on the outside it is a normal low-set brick home with a carport out the front. But once you step inside, you are transported into a world of colour and retro charm.
The first “WOW” comes courtesy of the amazing wallpaper adorning the lounge room wall. It’s a modern design that Donna imported from the UK and it certainly makes a statement as to what’s around the corner in this unique home and creative space.
The furniture in this area also pays homage to the 70’s with bright colours and patterns being a key feature.
After you have been amazed by the wallpaper, the kitchen then takes your eye.
Decked out in bright red laminate with a black and white check floor, its certainly a gutsy move that not many people would be game to do! It looks right at home in this space and I think it would really help you get going in the morning and brighten up your daily routine.
Throughout the house is an array of retro furnishings, artwork and knick-knacks, all placed in collections in cabinets and on shelves dotted around the home. There is lots of interesting pieces and many of them have a story behind them, which I think make for a happy home.
Donna says she has always had a ‘thing’ for the retro style and has collected bits and pieces from op shops for as long as she can remember!
Donna works from home on her range of clothing and accessories in a corner of the main bedroom devoted to her sewing. It’s clearly evident that her surroundings inspire her creations as she sources unique fabrics and works on designs that are different to what you would normally see in mainstream stores. It’s wonderful to see someone flex their creative muscles and do what makes them happy!
If you think Donna’s colourful and fun-filled home is great, take a look at her store!
