In pursuit of beautiful homes, I seem to be spending a lot of my time travelling across the river to the south of Brisbane.
Despite having suburbs to the west and a little bit to the east (-ish), there is great debate amongst the locals north and south of the river banks, as to which part of our fair city is the best.
As I spend my time all over the place, I can see the pros and cons of each part. But, if you were to use the homes on this site to judge, the south side is winning by a mile!
Come on North side, show me your gorgeous homes!!
Today’s home tips the scales to favour the south, yet again!
A gorgeous girl in Holland Park West
Having visited this part of Brisbane a little and of course, the Sow’s Ear in Holland Park, I had a good idea as to what sort of beautiful homes were hiding in this neck of the woods.
Amazing examples of Spanish Mission and Art Deco architecture are in abundance on the streets of Holland Park West.
I’m talking serious abundance. The kind that you should walk the streets for…, because trying to drive and look at the same time would be all too dangerous.
This home, is one of those Holland Park West beauties, a grand dame who began life as a gorgeous girl.
Welcome to the home of Joydee, Andrew & Co.
The lounge area shows off many of the homes original features, with stunning leadlight windows, detailed cornices and picture rails.
Tucked within the bay window, is a built in cabinet which is Art Deco perfection, showing off the style and craftsmanship that is synonymous with the era.
The kitchen has a sleek, updated look with shiny stone benchtops. It overlooks another sitting area which leads out onto a fantastic deck.
Often, homes of this era are thought to be small and stuffy, but the changes made in this area really open up the space and make it spacious and suited to the warm climate of Brisbane.
An added bonus is the view! The back deck takes in the green views of Toohey Forest at Tarragindi and sparkly suburban lights at night time.
Rooms for the junior men of the house are decorated in a fun and whimsical way, showing off their prized possessions with a slight retro and vintage twist.
Like the kitchen, the bathroom has also been updated prior to Joydee and Andrew moving in. It’s again, very sleek and modern, with a gorgeous feature tile that looks like flocked wallpaper!
I hope you have loved looking into this gorgeous little pocket of Brisbane. If you are in the area, I suggest doing a drive around (preferably with someone else driving you) to really see the beautiful homes that the area has to offer.
Character is sadly disappearing from our suburbs, so thanks Joydee and Andrew for allowing me to share your character filled home here for everyone to see and enjoy!
